This is a confessional post about one of my major shortcomings: I take on too many things at once and then have troubles getting them all done because when I want to do something my brain can’t choose and I can’t focus on one thing. It’s excruciating at times! It makes me swear – a lot.
Here is the current list of things that I have started and have not yet finished (and this is just the writing stuff!):
1000 Day MFA with Shaunta Grimes and the Ninja Writers
A Novel Idea course with the above
Self Publishing 101 with Mark Dawson
Masterclass with James Patterson
A Children’s writing course with The Writer’s Bureau
Comprehensive Writing Course with the above
The first draft of my current novel
The second draft of two previous novels
A writing course with Om
My Submission Mission promise to myself
A fiction writing experiment on four writing platforms
Here is what I did finish: CampNaNoWriMo
This is just the writing stuff and it’s giving me a headache thinking about it. I need to recover my focus. I think part of the problem is that it is the summer holidays so it’s difficult to find longer periods of time where I can sit down and get stuck into something but I’m not allowing that to be 100% of my excuse. I’m about to take control again and segment off the areas of what I want to do so that I can get it all done, as Anne Lamott says, bird by bird.
I’ll let you know how I get on!
